Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan on Monday directed the concerned officials to immediately start waste-to-energy projects in six big cities of Punjab and it should be completed within one year. The projects will be started in Lahore, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sialkot; the Punjab government will gift one project to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government for Peshawar.

While presiding over a meeting, the Senior Minister asked the local government department to start these plants with the cooperation of Chinese and other foreign companies. He said these plants will replace dumping sites which will produce electricity, gases and other usable products from garbage. The start waste-to-energy project is a part of the 'Clean and Green Punjab' campaign,' he added.

He told the meeting that later such plants will be set up in every district of Punjab. "These projects will help in providing healthy environment to the citizens," he added. On the occasion, the Minister was briefed by Punjab Local Government Secretary Capt Saif Anjum (retd) about the process of waste-to-energy project. A number of proposals were also come under discussion in the meeting.
